WHAT'S AT STAKE
Much more than the Victory Bell and Los Angeles bragging rights are on the line at the Rose Bowl. The winner will represent the Pac-12 South in the league championship game in two weeks. USC can bolster its underwhelming season with a sixth consecutive win over the Bruins, who are hoping to punctuate their strong season under first-year coach Jim Mora with their seniors' first victory over their crosstown rivals.
USC S T.J. McDonald vs. UCLA S Tevin McDonald. Sure, they don't play at the same time, but the brothers are competing against each other on every down of the family's biggest game of the year. T.J. is the Trojans' leader with 83 tackles and countless ferocious hits, while Tevin is the Bruins' second-leading tackler (62) and a key to their pass defense. Dad Tim McDonald has a bye week from his assistant coaching job at Fresno State -- and while he roots for both sons equally.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
USC: WR Robert Woods. Given Mora's massive respect for Marqise Lee, Woods might be the key to the Trojans' offense after managing just two catches for minus-3 yards last week. The former All-American has mostly avoided frustration while making just 61 catches to Lee's 98 this season, but the crosstown rivalry game is Woods' chance to shine.
UCLA: LB Anthony Barr. The converted ball-carrier has been a revelation on defense for the Bruins, recording 11 sacks and wreaking havoc on offenses. He'll take aim at Matt Barkley on the right side, where inconsistent OLs Aundrey Walker and freshman Max Tuerk have struggled to watch their star quarterback's back.
