MILLERSBURG -- A longtime downtown Millersburg business will be changing ownership in the new year, but the new owners promise to continue the same family-friendly, community oriented business it has been.
Family-owned E&H Hardware Group is in the process of finalizing details to purchase Millersburg Hardware, at 70 N. Washington St., Millersburg, in early February 2017. Shortly thereafter the store will transition from True Value to Ace Hardware, ultimately bearing the name E&H Ace Hardware. The store phone number will remain the same at 330-674-6941.
Millersburg True Value Hardware is a second generation business that was founded by Junior and Barb Yoder in 1972 and currently owned by Joel (son) and Kristen Yoder.
Yoders purchased a storefront on Jackson Street in Millersburg in 1972, and moved to Washington Street the fall of 1978. They continued to build their business into what it has become today. Although Joel and Kristen Yoder have enjoyed serving their loyal customers, they look forward to a new chapter as the business transitions to new ownership.
"We were exploring options, and after making some updates and renovations, it all came together last summer," Kristen Yoder said.
After 44 successful years, the family is looking forward to what the future holds. They will stay involved with the community through their other business, Village Toy Shop of Millersburg. Joel Yoder will also be continuing his career as a certified public accountant with Rea and Associates, Inc.
"We couldn't have asked for a better situation to ensure the best possible future for a hardware store in Millersburg," said Joel Yoder. "We found a local, family owned business that shares our values about community, family, and customer service. We are also excited that many of our staff members will be transitioning to the Ace Hardware team."
Kristen Yoder will take over the daily operations of the Village Toys Shop at 113 W. Jackson.
"I'm looking forward to spending more time at the Toy Shop," she said.
The Millersburg True Value Hardware will close at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3 and reopen at 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6 as E&H Ace Hardware. Existing "house accounts" are encouraged to complete a new application with E&H Ace Hardware to continue credit benefits.
In the weeks following the transfer to E&H Hardware Group, product lines will be refreshed and popular store departments, including an expanded selection of plumbing and electrical, will all benefit from an enhanced look and feel. The new E&H Ace Hardware will also continue to be a destination for Husqvarna products and service. A full service paint department will offer Valspar, Clark+Kensington, and custom color matching. Small engine service and repair is also planned.
"The Millersburg Hardware team has built a solid community-oriented business and we are fortunate enough to continue the family-owned tradition under the E&H Ace Hardware name," said Scott Buehler, President & COO of E&H Hardware Group. "We are excited for the opportunity to offer the same great service that customers have come to expect over the years and look forward to establishing a strong relationship with the community."
Eligible employees of Millersburg Hardware will be offered the opportunity to work for E&H Ace Hardware following the transition. Additional employees may be hired to fill the void left by Joel Yoder and his wife. Job postings may be found on www.indeed.com by searching Ace Hardware.
