On Sept. 8, Hiland FFA members participated in the Harvest Festival Parade in Berlin. The theme of the float was "The 85th Anniversary of FFA." FFA started in 1928. In 1988, the Future Farmers of America name was changed to National FFA Organization, known as FFA.
Students decorated the float with blue and yellow balloons with the FFA emblems, hay bales and Hiland FFA signs. Bud Raber, father of Taylor Raber, drove the 4020 John Deere tractor which pulled the float. Members were Rachelle Yoder, Jessica Davis, Megan Hippert, Taylor Raber, Grant Mast, Cody Slabaugh and Brandon Kozak.
On Sept. 10, Hiland FFA members participated in Adopt-A-Highway. They picked up trash along state Route 39 from Troyer's Country Market to Chestnut Ridge Elementary School and back to the high school, covering a total of 2 miles. Participating were: Javan Scheufler, Mac Cordle, Grant Mast, Kenny Clark, Nikyta Engstrom, Rachelle Yoder and Megan Hippert. Chaperones were Ro Yoder, mother of Rachelle Yoder, and FFA adviser Ms. Albright.
Hiland FFA members who competed Sept. 20 in the District 8 Urban Soils judging contest were: Mac Cordle, Grant Mast, Taylor Raber and Kenny Clark. The contest was held in Muskinghum
Placings were: Cordle, ninth; Mast, 11th; Raber, 22nd and Clark, 26th. The team placed sixth overall.
