Dairy feeders have busy schedule in 2013

The 101st annual meeting of the Ohio Guernsey Breeders Association will be held Saturday, March 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the All Occasions Catering at Waldo. The All-Occasions Catering is located just off Route 23 North, in Waldo. From state Route 96, off state Route 23, turn left in Waldo and go south to the facility. From the south turn left at Route 229 and go one-tenth mile and turn right to facility. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. The annual meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon. Awards and other special activities connected with the youth program will take place in the afternoon.

The Junior Guernsey Breeders will hold its meeting at the same time as the adult meeting. Membership dues are currently due and reservations for the noon luncheon are due by Monday, Feb. 18. The Spring Dairy Expo Guernsey show will be held on Thursday, March 28 at 7 p.m. and the Buckeye Classic Guernsey Sale will be held Friday, March 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ohio State Fairgrounds, Columbus. For sale information contact Chris Lang at 330-473-9660 or Krista Richardson at 419-564-4761.

The District 2 Holstein Club held its annual meeting Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Damascus Friends Church, Damascus. Approximately 70 members and guests were in attendance. A delicious roast beef dinner was enjoyed by all. The meeting was called to order by President Steve Moff. Officers elected for 2013 were: President, Steve Moff; vice president, Doug Dye; secretary-treasurer, Suzanne Lora; news reporter, Betty Whiteleather. Club directors elected were Grant Cope and Ryan Kiko. District directors elected were Jim Beardsley and John Lora. Don Alexander, general sanager of the Ohio Holstein Association, reported on the state activities, including the Ohio Convention Sale to be held March 8 at 11 a.m. at the Shelby Fairgrounds, Sidney, and the annual meeting to be held March 9, at 8 a.m. at the Sidney Inn and Conference Center. It was announced that the Northeast Ohio (District 1 and 2) Holstein show would be held June 29 at the Canfield Fairgrounds, Canfield. Nathan Thomas will be the judge. The Canfield Fair will run from Aug. 28 to Sept. 2, with the Open Holstein Show to be held on Friday, Aug. 30 at 9 a.m. Judge will be Alta Mae Core.

COBA/Select Sires has scheduled a series of annual meetings and dairy seminars from Feb. 11 through Feb. 26 at various locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Registration will be 10-10:30 a.m., unless otherwise noted. There will be business meetings, dairy sire information, and management presentations, delegate elections at all meetings and director elections as noted. Lunch will be served compliments of COBA. The District 4 and 6 meeting will be held Monday, Feb. 25 at Dutch Valley Restaurant, Sugarcreek. Speaker will be Charlie Will, Select Sires.
