Goodwill Industries of Wayne and Holmes Counties recently made an appeal to the community for donations in support of the purchase of a passenger van to replace a high-mileage vehicle that the agency currently uses to provide consumer transportation. While access to reliable transportation is one of the most critical factors to gaining and maintain employment, only approximately 20 percent of Goodwill consumers have access to this resource.
Because providing reliable transportation to consumers is such an integral part of Goodwill's mission to remove barriers to employment, it is essential that we maintain a fleet of safe, fully operational and cost-effective vehicles with which to transport anywhere from 25-50 consumers per day to interviews, agency appointments and employment training.
Thanks to the generosity of many throughout Wayne and Holmes counties, our agency has been able to purchase a 2009 Dodge Caravan with approximately 200,000 fewer miles than one of the vans that needed to be replaced. We are also hopeful that we will be able to replace another one of our high-mileage vehicles within the next few months.
We would like to convey our sincere appreciation to all who supported Goodwill's mission throughout the past year, whether through patronage of our five retail locations, donations of used clothing and housewares, or monetary contributions. Your generosity allows Goodwill Industries to create local jobs, one donation at a time.
