Hiland has had a steady pipeline for sending student-athletes to Div. II Malone University over the years, with the most recent signee being senior baseball player Mitch Massaro.
The son of Jeff Massaro and Deb Massaro was a pitcher and the rightfielder for Hiland's 2016 Div. III state champion baseball team. His classmate, catcher-pitcher Bryan Yoder, signed with the Pioneers earlier this fall.
"I picked Malone because on my visit I fit in with the guys and practices are intense," said Massaro, who carries a 3.3 GPA and was a first-team All-DR honoree in the spring. "I know I'll be getting better every day.
"Malone's engineering program is a five-year program -- the first three years are on Malone's campus, but the last two are at Akron University where I'll finish up my degree. I'm excited to be a Pioneer."
