MILLERSBURG -- The Millersburg Police Department will be adding a new officer and getting new radio service in its vehicles as the new year begins.
Stephanie Genet was the lone internal applicant to replace Officer Kevin Brown.
"She's the only one to express interest in the position and applied," Police Chief S. Thomas Vaughn, "and that's who we recommend to hire."
Genet was recently named Millersburg Auxiliary Officer of the Year.
"She's been pretty active with the police department part time and on the volunteer force," he said.
The police department will be adding Multi-Agency Radio Communication Systems (MARCS) into the vehicles over the next few weeks.
"We're probably looking at mid- to late January before we go live with radios, but we are progressing with that," Vaughn said.
The chief also asked council for two members to sit on the board of the Volunteer Police Administrative Board. Council members Bob Shoemaker and Kelly Hoffee, who served as members last year, were re-appointed by council.
Village Administrator Nate Troyer reminded residents and businesses of their obligation to keep their sidewalks clear.
"With the bad weather we had last week, it was brought to our attention that a lot of sidewalks weren't cleared off," he said. "Residents and businesses are reminded that they have to keep their sidewalks free of snow and ice. The village can and will be sending reminder letters to that effect."
