MOUNT EATON -- Another buggy crash turned fatal in Wayne County after the operator of one died early Wednesday morning, Feb. 8.
According to a release from the Wooster Post of the State Highway Patrol, Samuel E. Swartzentruber, 56, of Fredericksburg, died at Aultman Hospital in Canton at 4:05 a.m. Wednesday afternoon.
Swartzentruber was operating a horse-drawn buggy eastbound on U.S. Route 250, east of Zuercher Road, when he attempted to turn north into a private drive in Paint Township from the buggy lane. While turning, he turned into the path of another eastbound Honda Accord.
Swartzentruber was ejected from the buggy and taken to Aultman Canton Hospital by a Paint Township squad.
The Honda was operated by Paula M. Ball, 38, of Wooster, along with passenger Alexander Adkins, 20, also of Wooster. Neither occupants of the Honda Accord was hospitalized and both were wearing their seat belts.
The crash occurred Jan. 30 at 10:41 a.m., and the Stark County Coroner notified the post early Wednesday that Swartzentruber had died.
This is the second fatal crash in Wayne County of the year, both of which were caused by a failure to yield violation.
