MILLERSBURG -- Jitters Coffee House in Millersburg will sponsor its first Meet the Candidates event of 2017 for candidates seeking to run in the upcoming May 2 primary to fill the unexpired term for Holmes County Municipal Court Judge vacated by the passing of the late Judge Jane Irving Baserman. The event will be held Thursday, March 16 at 7 p.m. at Jitters Coffee House, 1545 S. Washington St.
Candidates, Judge Andrew Hyde and Attorney Sam Steimel have been invited to introduce themselves and take questions from the media and the citizens of Holmes County.
Judge Hyde, previously a local attorney, was appointed by Gov. John Kasich to preside over the Holmes County Municipal Court until an election could be held to elect Judge Irving's successor. Hyde was sworn into office on Nov. 11. Because Irving was less than halfway through her term, a candidate must win the May primary and the November general election to serve out the remainder of the term, which expires Dec. 31, 2019.
According to the Holmes County Board of Elections, the deadline to register to vote in the May 2 primary election is Monday, April 3, and in-person absentee voting begins Tuesday, April 4. Early voting hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
