KILLBUCK -- The annual Killbuck Library fundraising dinner and auction is Saturday, April 8, at the Killbuck VFW.
The menu includes barbecue chicken, scallop potatoes, baked beans and cole slaw, with a roll and butter. Dinners cost $8 for adults and $5 for children.
Donations are being accepted for the auction. Donations can be dropped off to event coordinator Lisa Kauffman at the Killbuck Savings Bank main office in Killbuck.
"Any type of donations are welcome," Kauffman said.
Dinner will start at 4:30 p.m. and the auction begins at 7 p.m.
"This event, which has been going on for years, is our main fundraiser," Kauffman said. "We use the funds raised at this event to operate the library. No one is paid. We only have volunteers.
"People tend to look forward to this event every year," Kauffman added. "It'a a nice time to get out of the house after the long winter."
Linda Wilcox is a volunteer whose love for her community leads her to donate about four hours each time whenever she can.
She said volunteers sign up on a sheet and usually the times fill up.
While working at the Harvest Thrift Shop, across the street from the library, where she also volunteers, she saw kids lining up outside the library after it was supposed to be open.
"Apparently, whoever was supposed to work today couldn't make it," Wilcox said. "I saw that people wanted to get in, so I came over and filled in."
Wilcox said now that she has the time, she wants to make the most of it.
"I love my community. I've always lived here, and now that I'm retired, I have a little extra time, so I thought I'd put it to good use," she said. "And it is very important to me that we keep our library in Killbuck."
The library is looking for more volunteers, as well as donations for the auction.
