FREDERICKSBURG -- The Wayne County Sheriff's Office was called to a Fredericksburg Road home Thursday night, April 20, to investigate the death of a 3-year-old girl.
Capt. Doug Hunter said sheriff's deputies were called to the home just after 7 p.m. to investigate the death of the girl, identified as Breanna Troyer. Her obituary appeared in the April 22 edition of The Daily Record.
After speaking with witnesses, the deputies learned the girl was struck by a Bobcat skid loader operated by her 7-year-old brother.
Hunter said the girl was sitting in the bucket area of the skid loader with her father. While the skid loader was on the driveway area of the home, the girl apparently lost her balance and fell out. She was instantly struck by the piece of equipment.
"There's no reason to believe this was anything other than an accident," Hunter said. He noted that while an adult was supervising the boy's operation of the skid loader, Hunter wanted "to urge people to step back and look at what could go wrong with a child operating, riding or just in the vicinity of heavy machinery ... consider what's safe or necessary."
