MILLERSBURG -- Village police are warning drivers to exercise extra caution when traveling in the area of South Washington Street and Glen Drive.
In a Facebook alert to the public, Millersburg Police Chief Thomas Vaughn notes, "Beware there has been a change to the traffic light signalization at South Washington Street and Glen Drive intersection. There is no longer a protected turn coming out of Glen Drive or the west side of that intersection which leads to the Save and Serve Thrift Shop and Tope Printing. Both east and westbound traffic will move simultaneously."
The change in signalization presents the potential for failure to yield violations involving drivers who may be accustom to the prior traffic flow and are not cognizant of the change, said Vaughn.
Drivers should pay extra attention to the traffic signals, especially until they become more familiar with the pattern, which is expected to become the new standard, Vaughn said, noting that by April 21, officers already had responded to a two-vehicle, non-injury accident -- the result of a failure to yield violation -- at the intersection.
The signalization change comes as part of an ODOT project to improve the intersection in an attempt to reduce crashes.
