MILLERSBURG -- A Wadsworth man recently denied criminal charges he stole cattle from a local auction barn.
Tyler A. Farnsworth, 32, of 7743 Beach Road, pleaded not guilty in Holmes County Common Pleas Court to a single count of theft. If convicted of the fifth-degree felony, he faces up to one year in prison.
The charge stems from incidents occurring between November and December 2015.
That's when Farnsworth reportedly bought a total of 10 calves on two occasions from the Mount Hope Auction, according to Chief Deputy Richard Haun of the Holmes County Sheriff's Office.
At the time of the purchases, Farnsworth reportedly wrote two checks for a total of $3,014; however, both were written on a closed account, said Haun, noting attempts to collect on the debt were unsuccessful, prompting the criminal complaint.
Free on a $5,000 bond, Farnsworth is next scheduled to appear in court for a July 19 pretrial conference. A jury trial is scheduled for Aug. 7.
