FREDERICKSBURG -- When Jean Briggs saw a picture of a quilt on display at the Ithaca, N.Y., library, she became inspired to create a similar one for the Fredericksburg Community Library.

Briggs, a prolific quilter renowned both locally and nationally for her expertise, artistry and huge body of work she has created over the years, presented her gift to the library at its June board meeting. The wall hanging is hand sewn, hand quilted and depicts three bookshelves filled with books. Each book is embroidered, including the title and author on many.

The wall hanging is now on permanent display at the library.
