The following is a wrapup of West Holmes and Hiland varsity events for the week of Aug. 17-23.
GIRLS TENNIS
Tuesday, Aug. 17
Mansfield St. Peter 3,
West Holmes 2
Sophomore Rachel Nelson continued to roll early in the season, but the Knights team stumbled to fall to 1-1 on the season. Nelson for the second straight day had a double bagel win at first singles, while Rachel Koch and Hannah Frank picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles for the hosts two wins on the day.
Wednesday, Aug. 18
West Holmes 4, Triway 1
The Knights got double bagel wins as first singles by Rachel Nelson and at first doubles with the tandem of Rachel Koch and Hannah Frank. Nelson has yet to drop a game this season.
Picking up the win for the Titans was Erin Gorrel and Angela Coblentz. The tandem got the better of Miranda Huebner and Chelsea Black in a three setter 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 7-6 (7-4).
Triway's Alex Ramey took Jenna Polen to a tie-breaker in the first set before falling by a 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 score.
Monday, Aug. 23
West Holmes 5, Zanesville 0
Yielding only three points all day, West Holmes had its way with Zanesville in posting the shutout victory. With the win, the Knights moved to 3-1 on the young season.
Posting double-bagel wins were Rachel Nelson (first singles) and the first doubles team of Hannah Frank and Rachel Koch. Brittany Polen pulled out a 6-1, 6-1 win at second singles, Miranda Huebner came out on top 6-0, 6-1 at the third spot, and the second doubles team won via forfeit.
