It's been a good summer of bowling for 14-year-old Zack Dowling of Millersburg. Participating in the Pepsi United States Bowling Championship series, Dowling, who bowls at Spare Time Lanes, has moved up the ladder.
He qualified for regionals out of Spare Time, did well enough at the Hall of Fame Lanes regional to qualify for state, then bowled in that event at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace.
Dowling's 174 average from six games at state advanced him to this weekend's USBC National Championships in Indianapolis, where he will compete for scholarship money and other prizes. Dowling, who will be a freshman at West Holmes, is the son of Tish and Frank Clabough and Donnie and Pam Dowling, all of Millersburg.
