Blaine Edwin Allum, 87, Rices Landing, Pa., formerly of Wooster and West Finley, Pa., passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, with his family at his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 22, 1925, the son of the late Fred and Josephine Allum, and was a high school graduate. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Elden.
In October 1950, he married Jewell, who died in 1976. Together they had four children, Dianna, Ruthie, Carol and Paul Allum, who died in 1996. In 1982, he married Anne. She survives.
While living in Ohio, Blaine worked for the East Ohio Gas Co. for 32 years and held the position of supervisor. After retiring from the gas company, he returned to West Finley, Pa., where he was owner/operator of Allum's Grocery Store for 10 years. He then left West Finley and took up residence in Rices Landing (Dry Tavern).
Mr. Allum was a Baptist by faith, and was a Free and Accepted Mason. He was a member of the American Legion of Claysville. In his pastime he enjoyed playing cards and golfing.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Anne, are daughters Dianna (James) Bowersock of West Salem, Ruthie Ralston of Millersburg and Carol (Tim) Huxley of Medina; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Allum; stepchildren Ellen Krokenberger of Youngstown, John Gutosky (Paula), Coal of Center, Pa., William (Dianna) Gutosky of Michigan; and a sister, Patty (Steve) Richey of Canton; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, Jewell, he was preceded in death by a son, Paul and a sister, Veda Miller.
Services were private. Arrangements were handled by the Frank Burkus Funeral Home, 26 Mill St., Millisboro, Pa., 15348.
