C. Rader Summers, 87, Fredericksburg, died Sunday evening, Nov. 25, 2012, at Sycamore Run Nursing Center in Millersburg, after a lengthy illness.
Rader was born May 25, 1925, in Clay County, W.Va., the son of the late William and Lula (James) Summers, and married Donna Walker on Nov. 23, 1948. She survives.
He served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II from 1943-46, having served in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre and retired following 38 years of services from the Timken Co.
Rader was a member of Fredericksburg American Legion Post 651, Killbuck VFW Post 7079 and Killbuck Valley Sportsman's Club. He had made his home in Fredericksburg since 1948 and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Donna, are children Keith Summers of Okayama-ken, Japan, Richard (Linda) Summers and Kenneth (Doris) Summers, both of Fredericksburg, and Connie (Dennis) Snell of Lakeville; grandsons Michael, Jeremy and John Summers, Nathan and Corey Young; a granddaughter, Kerry Miller; great-granddaughters Ashtyn, Sophie and Kenadie Summers; and brothers Neel (Elsie) Summers of Wooster and Lewis (Linda) Summers of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Curwood Summers.
Services will be Friday, Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg with Kent Adams officiating. Burial will be in Fredericksburg East Cemetery, with military honors.
