Hal Franks, 76, of Wooster, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Akron City Hospital.
He was born Feb. 26, 1936, in Wooster, the son of Delroy and Luella Bierly Franks, and married Peggy Merriman on March 29, 1958. She survives.
He was a realtor and broker, owning Hal Franks Realty since 1970, and was past president of Wayne County Real Estate Board, serving on the Board for four years.
He was a member of the Elks, had received the outstanding and dedicated service award from the Chamber of Commerce from 1965-68, had been a member of Wayne Elementary PTA, Wooster High School Booster Club and Wooster Band Parents. He had sponsored Holmes County Special Olympics, was on the board of Junior Achievement, was very active in Coats for People through People to People Ministries and active in Relay for Life.
He loved waterskiing, snowmobiling, racing boats and watching Cleveland sports teams. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and had served his country in the U.S. Army.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are a son, Scott (Mary) Franks of Wooster; and grandchildren, Courtney Olevnik of Erie, Pa., and Carley Franks of Wooster
Hal was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Betsy Franks Champlin in 2012.
An Elks service was held Thursday, Jan. 10 at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.
Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 11 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 150 E. North St., Wooster, with the Rev. Kevan Franklin officiating. Burial was in Wooster Cemetery.
