MILLERSBURG -- Joy E. Maxwell, 73, of Millersburg, passed away suddenly Tuesday morning, Jan. 3, 2017, at Pomerene Hospital, Millersburg.
Joy was born July 8, 1943, in Massillon, the daughter of Gerald and Nellie Smith, and married her best friend, John Maxwell on Oct. 7, 1962. He survives.
She was a homemaker and a floral designer. Her children have fond memories of when they were growing up, spending most days swimming with their mom at the pool, her watching them at Little League and traveling, hitting most of the states in the U.S. Over the years, Joy had such a closeness to her family and friends that all played an important role in her life.
Joy was a member of Millersburg United Methodist Church, and enjoyed gardening, cooking, was crafty, artistic and loved to travel.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are sons, Todd (Cristina) Maxwell of Pembroke Pines, Fla. and Brad (Bridee) Maxwell of Vail, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Holmes Fire District 1 EMS, the emergency room staff at Pomerene Hospital, and to Dr. Stan Boyd for the care that was given to Joy.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, is assisting the family.
