MILLERSBURG -- Edward "Skip" Markel, 64, of Millersburg passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 29, 2017, at the Holmes County Home, Holmesville, after an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 1, 1952, in Orrville, the son of Edward Jr. and Dorothy M. (Harrison) Markel, and married Sandy Burgett on Jan. 26, 1974. She survives.
Edward enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved spending time with his grandkids.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Sandy, are sons, Jereme (Angie) Markel of Millersburg and Jonathan (Laura) Markel of Loudonville; grandchildren, Nevaeh, Noah, Ellie, Sawyer and Anthony "AJ"; sisters and a brother, Helen (Bob) Underwood of Dresden, Gloria Butts of Wooster, Bonny (Steve) Sechler of Mansfield and Tim Markel of Ashland; a niece, Marsha Purvis; numerous nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Mary Burgett of Millersburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rick Markel; and a niece, JoAnn Pay.
Memorial services were Friday, Feb. 3 at Welcome Church of Christ, with pastor Dale Duncan officiating. A meal immediately followed the services at the church. Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, assisted the family.
