MILLERSBURG -- Betty Hummel, 83, of Millersburg went to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, at her home after an extended illness.
Betty was born Aug. 3, 1933, in Spring Mountain, the daughter of Clifford and Grace Mullet, and married Maynard Byron Hummel on Feb. 8, 1953. She lost her best friend and life love when Maynard succumbed to cancer on Oct. 12, 2012, but she continued to carry on as the fiercely independent, compassionate and loving center of her family.
Over the years, Betty worked for East Holmes School District, was a homemaker and volunteered at the hospital. She was a member of Berlin Baptist Church. Second to her family, her greatest love was caring for her garden, flowers, her lawn and she loved reading. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are children, Michael Eric (Penny) Hummel of Millersburg and Debra Jean Hummel of California; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Hazel Randles Duncan, Hester Randles Spurgeon, Carl Randles, Elmore Mullet and Bernice Mullet Koenig.
Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 3, at Millersburg Baptist Church, with pastor James Jamison officiating. Burial was in Berlin Cemetery. Those wishing to share a memory or make online condolences may do so by visiting www.alexanderfhinc.com.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
