Marilyn Weiss

SUGARCREEK -- Marilyn Weiss, 87, of Sugarcreek died Monday, April 10, 2017, at Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.

She was born April 9, 1930, in Shanesville to the late Arthur and Ora (Burkey) Miller.

She retired from the Sugarcreek Post Office in 1990 after 29 years of service and was a member of First United Church of Christ in Sugarcreek. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, was an avid NASCAR fan and she dearly loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them all.

She was married to William W. Weiss on Jan. 29, 1950, and celebrated 64 years of marriage before he died on Feb, 25, 2014.

She is survived by her three daughters, Debra (Doug) Ott of Baltic, Diane (Dave) Ely and Denise (Kevin) Barnhart, both of Sugarcreek; five grandchildren, Jodi (Shasta) Hooks, Amy (Carl) Sommers, Billy (Nichole) Yoder, Jason Bonifant and Justin (Hallie) Bonifant; four great-grandchildren, Jamie Hooks, Amber Hooks, Slayde Sommers and Zayne Sommers; and a brother, Glenn (Sue) Miller of Columbus.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Wade Miller; two sisters, Margaret Alleshouse and Nadine Miller; son-in-law Dale "Skinny" Yoder; and great-granddaughter, Breanna Alberts.

Services were Friday, April 14, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek, with Pastor Sharman Hartson officiating. Burial followed in East Lawn Cemetery. Friends called 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
