KIDRON -- William D. "Bill" Sommer, 79, of Kidron, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Smithville-Western Care Center.
He was born in Massillon on May 9, 1937, to the late Edward W. and Floris M. (Saurer) Sommer and married Marilyn Jo Mizner on July 3, 1959. She survives.
Bill had lived in Kidron for 57 years and retired from Kidron Inc. following 49 years of service. He was an EMT and fireman for Kidron Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years and had been a member of their board of directors. He was a member of Cedar Lodge No. 430, F&AM in Orrville, the Shriners and Eastern Star. He also was a member of Wayne County FOPA for 43 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are his children, Scott (Beverly) Sommer and Juli (Brian) Scruggs; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Curt in 2005.
Friends called Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Cornerstone Community Church, 18600 Davis Road, Dalton, and a Masonic service began at 5:30 p.m. Funeral services were Thursday at 11 a.m. at the church, with Pastor Tim Hull officiating. Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton assisted the family.
