WINESBURG -- David M. Hershberger, 87, of Winesburg, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Walnut Hills Nursing Home in Walnut Creek, after a brief illness.
He was born in Sugarcreek Township, Stark County on July 13, 1929, to the late Meno and Lydia (Miller) Hershberger and married Alice L. (Menges) Hershberger on Aug. 28, 1948. She died Sept. 12, 2009
He worked at Troyer's Genuine Trail Bologna from 1948-69, then for the Ohio Department of Agriculture from 1969, retiring in 1989.
For many years, he had a hobby/side business working on radios and TVs. In his retirement he made airplanes out of pop cans and worked on word puzzles. He enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He was an active member of Zion Church in Winesburg.
Surviving are his children, Dave Hershberger and Judy Huff, both of Beach City, Carol (Dean) Dalrymple of Holmesville and Todd Hershberger of Brewster; a daughter-in-law, Dena Hershberger of Beach City; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Amanda Fresch, Liz Wilhelm, Mary Stutz and Katie Grossniklaus.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven Hershberger; a son-in-law, Ray Huff; a daughter-in-law, Amanda Hershberger; brothers, Mel Hershberger and Eli Hershberger; and a sister, Clara Lang.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Zion Reformed Church in Winesburg, with Pastor Brett Barkley officiating. Burial was in Westlawn Cemetery, Winesburg. Friends called Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton and Tuesday one hour prior to services at the church.
