FRESNO -- Jacob N. Yoder, 95, 32940 State Route 643, Fresno, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 16, 1922 in Holmes County to the late Noah J. and Sarah (Hershberger) Yoder, and married Mary Ann Troyer on Jan. 16, 1947. She survives.
He was a retired cabinet maker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church. He was ordained as minister on May 6, 1948, and as Bishop on Oct. 1, 1989.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are his children, Lizzie J. Yoder and Raymond J. (Lizzie) Yoder, both of the home, Andrew J. (Lizzie Ann) Yoder of Fresno, Noah J. (Anna) Yoder of Sugarcreek, Iva (Alvin) Hershberger of Millersburg, Clara (Noah) Yoder of Baltic, Edna (Mose) Yoder of Millersburg, Anna (Mose) Miller of Baltic, Mary (Leroy) Shetler and Erma (Alvin) Hershberger, both of Sugarcreek; 52 grandchildren, 106 great-grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren; a brother, Noah N. Yoder of Baltic; and a sister, Katie N. Yoder of Millersburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Dan and Andy; sisters, Lizzie and Mary Ann; and grandchildren, Sarah and Miriam.
Services were Friday, May 5, 2017, at 9 a.m. at the Yoder residence, with minister Atlee E. Troyer officiating. Burial was in Yoder Cemetery, Crawford Township, Holmes County. Arrangements were handled by Smith-Varns Funeral Home, Sugarcreek.
