BIG PRAIRIE -- Stephen Sprang, 74, of Big Prairie passed away Friday, April 21, 2017, at West View Healthy Living in Wooster following a period of declining health.
He was born Nov. 19, 1942, in Ashland to John E. and Bertha (Cross) Sprang. He was a 1961 graduate of Big Prairie-Lakeville High School and on July 14, 1967 he married Roberta D. Mowrer.
Stephen had been employed by Cerco-Diamonite in Shreve for 46 years where he retired in 2008 and for many years he sold and delivered PAG seed corn with his father. He was a member of the Ripley Church of Christ, where he had been a deacon, choir member and soloist. He was also a member of the Diamonite Quarter Century Club, and was a past member of the NRA. He enjoyed working on the family farm, his Oliver tractor, watching westerns and hunting.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Dwight (Rebecca) Sprang of Ashland, Dale (April) Sprang of Big Prairie and Andy (Julie) Sprang of Altoona, Pa.; three grandchildren, Alex, Julia and Christian Sprang, along with another grandchild on the way.
Service was Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Ripley Church of Christ with the Revs. Tom Benter and Jeremiah Stivers officiating. Burial followed in Ripley Cemetery. Schlabach Funeral Home in Shreve handled arrangements. Online condolences may be shared with the family at schlabachfh.com.
