Ruby Shriver, 88, Shreve

SHREVE -- Ruby J. Shriver, 88, of Shreve, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Smithville-Western Care Center after a period of declining health.

She was born Dec. 31, 1928, in Rittman to Thomas Eldridge and Lola (Staley) Walker and on Dec. 7, 1946, married Lloyd Carl Shriver. He preceded her Sept. 24, 1994.

Ruby was a licensed practical nurse at the former Gruter Foundation and Castle Nursing Home for a number of years. She was a member of Shreve United Methodist Church.

Being a people person, she served on various committees throughout her life. She especially enjoyed being the community outreach coordinator and was a member of the UMW, holding various positions there also. Some of the organizations Ruby enjoyed being a part of were Hospice of Wayne County, volunteering on the Senior Group with the Salvation Army, and being a board member on the Area Agency on Aging.

When her daughters were growing up, Ruby was a Girl Scout leader for a number of years. In her spare time, Ruby could be found crafting, playing bingo and attending auctions. Her treasure in life was her family, always supporting her children and then the grandchildren in sporting events and other activities they were involved in.

Surviving are daughters, Phyllis Lybarger of Shelby and Joyce (Joe) Hochstettler of Forest; a daughter-in-law, Emilie Shriver of Chugiak, Alaska; grandchildren, Sam (Kari) Lybarger, Unjoo (Richard) Azbill, Christina (Rob) Baumann, Aric (Dawn) Hochstettler, Brian Hochstettler, Christine and Joshua Borowski; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in law, Ernest (June) Foltz; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Walker.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death her son, Robert Shriver; a son-in-law, Lemuel Lybarger; her parents; a brother, James E. Walker; and a sister, Mary "Pat" Miller.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Schlabach Funeral Home in Shreve is handling arrangements. Online condolences may be shared with the family at schlabachfh.com.
